Multisport & Triathlon
Welcome to FRNY Multisport! As New York’s only LGBTQ+ Triathlon Club, we offer training and camaraderie, whether you’re considering your first sprint triathlon or getting ready for your fifth Ironman. Our members also regularly participate in aqua bikes and duathlons.
The centerpiece of our program is our weekly coached swims on Monday nights. They’re open to all skill levels, from beginner to competitive, as long as you’re already comfortable swimming 50 yards with your face in the water, including in the deep end. In addition to the regular workouts, we also frequently offer a five-week beginners’ series and more advanced one-night skill clinics.
In addition to the year-round swims, during the Spring and Summer we have triathlon orientation workshops, outdoor bike rides, and a list of featured races in which we try to organize a large turnout of team members.
Please note that in order to swim with FRNY, you must first become a member.
Please get in touch with us at multisport@frny.org with any questions or for more details, and be sure to check out our multisport page on Facebook as well! (The link to the Facebook group is in our weekly multisport email.)
Join our Monday Night Swim!
We have six lanes all to ourselves so we can accommodate a wide range of skill levels. We do ask that you be comfortable swimming 50 yards with your face in the water, including in the deep end. Swims are coached by Coach Onesimo Demira and our volunteer assistant coaches.
There are a few requirements to be aware of. You must be a member of FRNY. Swims are normally $10 each and you’ll have to be a member of US Masters Swimming -- however, you can try out your first swim for free and without joining USMS, as long as you sign a waiver form included on the signup form. (You still must be a member of FRNY.)
Advance sign-up is required for practices, which is done via an Eventbrite link that is circulated in the weekly Multisport email. Anyone wishing to swim should first sign-up to receive the Multisport email, which is sent out every Wednesday morning at 8:00 am. If you are already an FRNY member and do not receive the Multisport email, please email: multisport@frny.org.
Our swims meet at the Sacred Heart pool (the gym, not the main campus) at 406 E 91st St between 1st and York Avenues.
Payment is by punch card, which are available in five- and ten-swim increments and can be purchased here. If you could use assistance in affording the coached swim program, training costs are eligible for partial reimbursement via our participation fund.
When you come to your first swim, please be sure to bring goggles, a swim cap, a towel, and a lock for the locker. That’s all you’ll need (other than a swimsuit!).
We’re available at multisport@frny.org to answer any questions you might have. Looking forward to seeing you at the pool!
Group Bike Rides
We offer outdoor rides from spring through early fall in various locations in the NYC area. Rides take place on Sunday mornings, or occasionally Saturday mornings. The rides vary in distance and difficulty so that there are opportunities for beginners and advanced riders alike. The majority of our rides start from the George Washington Bridge and go up route 9W to various destinations, typically 20-40 miles with occasional longer rides to Bear Mountain and beyond. In the summer, we occasionally cycle to area beaches (bring your swimsuit! :) ). We also sometimes meet for brick workouts (bike + run) to train together for upcoming triathlons and duathlons.
Our bike rides are free for Front Runners New York members, and if you aren’t yet a member, you can try riding with us before joining simply by signing a waiver form.
For more information, email us at multisport@frny.org.
