STATEMENT FROM FRNY

FRNY stands against the discrimination created by the Nassau County Bill & Executive Order.

UPDATE JULY 26, 2024: Front Runners New York condemns the June 2024 bill signed by legislators in Nassau County (Long Island, NY), banning womens’ and girls’ sports teams with transgender athletes from competing at any public facility in the county. Nassau County first introduced the bill as an executive order, which was struck down in court in May 2024. FRNY maintains that this transphobic measure violates New York State law and amplifies the continued national campaign against transgender and gender nonconforming people and their right to authentically participate in public life and sport. As a running club serving queer New Yorkers, including members on Long Island, we are particularly impacted by this legislation. We support the continued efforts of the NYCLU and the Long Island Roller Rebels to pursue justice for trans athletes in Nassau County. Please follow NYCLU and Roller Rebels to stay informed of next steps and action items.

MARCH, 2024: Front Runners New York condemns the recent executive order signed in Nassau County (Long Island, NY), banning womens’ and girls’ sports teams with transgender athletes from competing at any public facility in the county. This transphobic measure amplifies the continued national campaign against transgender and gender nonconforming people and their right to authentically participate in public life and sport. Restrictions such as Nassau County’s order directly harm the trans community, especially its youngest, most vulnerable members. Furthermore, as a running club serving queer New Yorkers, including members on Long Island, we are particularly impacted by the immediacy of this decision. We find this act unconscionable and call on the NYS Attorney General to file suit and block this executive order.
