The Annual NYC Marathon Pancake Breakfast
Each year on the Saturday before the NYC Marathon, FRNY traditionally hosts a Pancake Breakfast for all the members of the club and any out of town visitors from our sister clubs and beyond. The Breakfast is at least a 20+ year tradition that takes place on the 5th Floor of Rutgers Church. It is made possible by the efforts of around 50 volunteers, who actually make over 300 pancakes, cook up over 300 sausage links, and cut up enough fruit to make a salad for a small army of runners, a standing room crowd of 130 people.
The breakfast is an opportunity for club members to reconnect with longtime friends and to make new ones. In many ways, it is our annual Homecoming event to share a meal, share the hopes of first-time marathoners and first-time NYC marathoners and to embrace those who have run many NYC and other marathons. Another tradition during the breakfast is our “marathon countdown”, where we acknowledge the actual number of marathons the attendees have completed.
Another more recent tradition is the Breakfast falls on the date when the candidates for the following year’s board seats are officially announced.
