For almost a full decade, Front Runners has been sponsoring a track meet in the late winter/early spring for sprinters and short-distance runners throughout the city. The event gathers some of the most serious track talent around but also offers novice tracksters the chance to be involved in a professionally timed meet on one of the fastest tracks in the country. The club holds the event at The Armory Track and Field Center at 168 St. and Fort Washington Avenue in Upper Manhattan. Events often include the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter, 400-meter and 800-meter sprints, as well as longer distances such as the one and two-mile and relays.
The club offers prize money to top finishers, so the event inevitably draws the interest of other running clubs. But what is truly great about this event is the number of FRNY volunteers, spectators and, lastly but certainly not least, racers. It's always a fun event that is lauded for its sportsmanship. A celebration at a nearby bar/restaurant is normally held after the event.
A special thanks goes to Cara and Jerry Macari of Urban Athletics for sponsoring our track meet. Please visit one of their stores (2 World Financial Center and 1291 Madison Avenue at 92nd street.)
